Starch

Starches make up another type of carbohydrates. Starches are the most common form of carbohydrates found in the diet. Starch is another great source of energy. Some foods that include high levels of starch are vegetables like corn, potatoes, and peas. Beans and lentils also have high starch levels, as do grains like barley, oat, and rice. While foods high in starch are often eaten as a meal themselves, starch is frequently used in cooking as an additive. It can be used to thicken soups and sauces.

Grains, which are high in starch, come in either a whole or refined form. A whole grain includes the outer and inner shells of the grain, while a refined grain is made up only of the starchy center of the grain. Some foods that are high in fiber include beans, legumes, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains (including pasta, cereals, breads, and nuts). A healthy digestive system is essential for overall health, and fiber is a great way to keep your digestive system healthy.
