Sugar Free Ice Cream or Bust!

World Wide Web | Sugar Free Ice Cream or Bust! | Even today, asking for sugar free ice cream is seen as a fax paus. People seem to think that enjoying a tasty treat which has been labeled a dessert has to be high in sugar and calories. This is far from the case, and there are many reasons why.

First of all, I don't like comparing sugar free ice cream to the sugar filled version. I think that is where most people go wrong. If you compare turkey bacon with pork bacon you'll have the same problem. Turkey bacon just isn't "bacon." I'm not saying that it's not good, it's just not what we have programmed in our brains for that word. The same thing goes for the word "ice cream." When eating sugar free ice cream, just think of it as just another tasty and cold dessert!

If you can get it out of your mind that the label doesn't mean that it's actually ice cream, then you should be OK to move on. I personally don't like going for the traditional chocolate or vanilla flavors, because it's just too hard to not go back to those childhood memories of what those flavors should taste like. My favorites are the fruit flavors. Not only do they have that sorbet type of texture to them, but they taste incredibly good! I prefer them over the sorbets that contain sugar. Maybe it's the flavor, or maybe it's the fact that I know I'm not loading on the calories with each spoonful.

It's also great for kids. If your children want to enjoy a tasty but low calorie dessert, sugar free ice cream is the way to go. Not only do they not get that sugar high (and ultimately the sugar crash), but it doesn't leave that sticky mess all over their face, shirt, and hands! With the amount of sugar that kids eat on a regular basis nowadays, taking some sugar out here and there can't hurt. On top of that, I have yet to meet a kid who doesn't jump at the chance to score a bowl of sugar free ice cream.

All in all, I think it comes down to training yourself to eat healthy. Eating salads is not always the tastiest option, but they really aren't that bad. However, people have it programmed in their heads that salads are boring, which is so far from the truth. If you are able put yourself in the right mindset, a bowl of sugar free ice cream can be the treat that fulfils your sweet tooth whenever the craving comes up.
