The Complete Guide to Beautiful Skin

World Wide WebThe Complete Guide to Beautiful Skin | It is vital that we take good care of our skin, as it is one of the most important parts of our body. It is the human body's barrier to the environment, and hence is in constant exposure to the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays and airborne particles. Unprotected exposure to these harmful substances may weaken the body's immune system and also result in rapid skin aging and wrinkling.

While most understand the importance of protecting their skin, many do not commit themselves to a proper daily skincare routine. In this case, lets just focus on facial care. Daily facial care is simple and takes less than five minutes to complete. These three simple steps will ensure that your face is free from dirt and oil, yet prevent overdrying:

Step 1) Cleansing

Facial cleansers are available in various forms including foaming wash, cream, as well as gel. There are also various types of facial wash suitable for people with different skin types - namely normal, dry, oily, combination and sensitive skin. Choose a facial cleanser that suits your skin best.

Directions: Ensure that there is adequate amount of the cleanser, then lather it up with lukewarm water. Massage it onto your skin in a circular and upward motion, then rinse them off completely before patting your face dry with a towel.

It is important to not rub your face too vigorously when cleansing your face.

Step 2) Toning

Toners help to cleanse and remove any remaining grime and dirt not removed during cleansing, and help to reduce the size of your pores. Toners may contain varied amounts of alcohol. To prevent overdrying, select toners which contain smaller quantities of alcohol (0-10%).

Directions: Pour the specified amount of toner onto a cotton wool and wipe your face with it carefully.

Step 3) Moisturizing

Moisturizers increase the skin's hydration and help to improve skin tone and texture. There are various types of moisturizers available for the different skin types. Similarly, select one that best suits your skin type.

Directions: Dab your face with the moisturizer, then massage it gently in a circular and upward motion.

These three steps should be done every morning and night. In addition, these additional facial care steps should be followed too.

Sunblock Lotion

Sunblock lotion should be applied before sun exposure. This ensures that your skin is protected against harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. There are two types of UV radiation which you should be concerned about: UV-A and UV-B.

To protect against UV-B, choose one that has sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. The higher the SPF, the greater the protection against UV-B.

Read the labels of your sunblock lotion and ensure that they contain both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These ingredients block off both UV-A and UV-B radiation.

Directions: Dab your face with the sunblock, then massage it gently in a circular and upward motion. This should be done 15-30 minutes before sun exposure and reapplied again 15-30 minutes after sun exposure begins.

Exfoliating
This step removes the outer layer of skin and reveals the new skin beneath it. This helps to unclog pores and removes dirt and grime. This should be done once a week, to prevent overdrying of your skin.

Directions: After cleansing your face (Step 1), apply the exfoliant and gently massage it in a circular and upward motion. Rinse it off before toning and moisturising your face (Steps 2 and 3).

Other than ensuring that you perform the basic facial care regimen, it is also important to have a well-balanced diet and healthy lifestyle. Ensure that there is enough water intake. Revitalise your skin with a regular intake of the essential vitamins. Vitamin A prevents drying of the skin and postpones aging, and can be found in carrots, sweet potato, spinach, egg, mango etc. Vitamin B promotes cell growth and helps to maintain healthy skin. It is present in whole grains, potatoes, yogurt, avocados etc. Vitamin C aids in the production of collagen, which helps to keep your skin firm and supple. It is present in fruits like orange, lemon, blackcurrent, kiwi etc.

These steps are simple yet essential, so do make sure that you maintain the routine and take care of your face. This will help your skin stay radiant and young.
