Restore Your Smile With Dental Veneers

World Wide WebRestore Your Smile With Dental Veneers | For people who are unhappy with the appearance of their teeth, dental veneers offer a relatively simple solution to a variety of dental problems such as misshapen or unevenly shaped teeth, crooked, chipped, stained teeth and uneven spaces or gaps between teeth. Whether your teeth are naturally imperfect or you have had injury, you need not put up with these problems.

What are veneers?

Dental veneers are a popular cosmetic dentistry option. They are made of very thin, shell-like material whose color resembles that of natural teeth. The veneers are glued onto the surface of the teeth to change the shape, color, size and length of the teeth to improve their appearance.
The dentist takes an impression of your tooth or teeth and has your veneers custom made in a dental laboratory to fit your teeth.

Typically, the veneers are made with either composite resin or porcelain. Both are glued to the teeth using resin cement. Generally, porcelain veneers have a better stain resistance and light reflecting quality. Those made with resin on the other hand, are thinner and require less enamel to be removed from a tooth to bond with it. Whichever material is used, the results are irreversible, which means that the veneers are bonded onto the teeth strongly and cannot be removed.

The most recent types of veneers are minimally invasive, meaning they do not require the removal of the enamel to bond with the teeth. They cover the problem areas without interfering with the structure of the tooth while offering equally lasting results.

How are veneers placed?

During consultation with your dentist, you will undergo an evaluation that will determine your suitability for dental veneers treatment and the best type of veneers for you. Initially, the dentist will remove about a half mm of the enamel from the surface of the tooth. The area is numbed with local anesthesia so there is no discomfort. The thickness of the veneer will be equal to the amount of enamel removed. A model of your tooth is then made and sent to the dental laboratory, where your veneer is made. Normally it takes about one-two weeks for the veneer to be ready.

During the placement procedure, the dentist first checks if the veneer fits and matches the color of teeth. The veneers may be trimmed or color adjusted using a shade of the cement if necessary. Your tooth is then cleaned and prepared for the veneer. Next, resin cement is applied on the veneer, which is then placed on your tooth. A special light beam is then applied on the tooth. This cures the cement, strengthens and quickens the bonding process. Final adjustments may be made on the veneer if needed. If the dentist sees it necessary, you may need a follow up appointment after a few weeks.

What is the cost?

This will largely depend on factors like your geographical location, the extent of the problem on your teeth and the amount of work needed among other factors. However on average, the prices range at $500-$1,300 per tooth. Since veneers are considered a cosmetic treatment, they are not covered by insurance, though you may enquire from your dental insurance provider.
