World Wide Web | Period Pain and Pain During Sex - A New Approach to Feeling Better? | Are you totally over having period pain? Does pain affect your sex life and consequently your relationship with your partner?Have you tried to get over the pain with balancing hormones, the food you eat, vitamins, medications and still you struggle with period pain every month? Have you even bothered talking to anyone about the pain during sex?Let me explain what could be causing it from a physical perspective. I specialize in helping to release restricted fascia around the body. Fascia is a web that wraps through every tissue, organ, muscle, bone, etc in your body. Imagine a piece of steak. Facsia is the thin white bit that goes through the meat. It's a connective tissue. When it is restricted you can easily find your body not functioning properly.
So imagine the fascia is tight and restricting your organs. When you get your period, your uterine lining expands to allow for the egg to be fertilized. When it's not fertilized, your uterus contracts to expel the extra lining and fluid.
During sex... well, without getting too technical, just know that your organs all move around and fill up with blood and all sorts of other wonderful magic happens for you to be able to enjoy sex.
In both of these scenarios, if you have fascia restricting your female organs or your pelvic region than as things move and contract to do what is completely natural, you are likely to feel pain. Pretty simple, right?
On a side note... as with any fascial restriction, there is frequently postural problems associated with this as well. What may happen is that as the pelvic floor gets pulled, you could end up with a "pooch" belly, as your back sways back and your belly sticks out.
So, if this is the case... what can you do about it? Have the fascia released by seeing a therapist who specializes in myofascial technique. This may seem hard to imagine, but please know... nothing needs to be released internally. The fascia can be released in that area from working on your body externally. Phew!
The benefit to helping yourself this way is that you get to lay on a table and let someone else do the work. And not only is it possible to have your period and sex pains go away, it just may help your posture too and get you standing up straighter and looking thinner!
